Camp Agape and Morning Star

Camp Agape and Morning Star

Agape Families exists to provide hope and stability to families impacted by incarceration. Agape was founded in 2012 in response to the estimated 22,000 kids in Oregon that have a parent that is in prison. The impact of incarceration stretches far past the individual that is sentenced, and their children currently face a number of challenges in their lives including economic hardships, health concerns, academic difficulties, housing deficiencies, and more. Without hope or resources, these kids are placed on a trajectory of continued poverty or incarceration, with many of the choices being handed to them rather than made for themselves. This is why we are here – to increase the likelihood of these children and families succeeding and provide resources to help them accomplish it. We offer free camps, mentorship and follow up programs that address their unique circumstances and trauma and teach them how to have hope and a renewed life. With the support of local churches and community volunteers, we strive to help every person see that they are loved, known and worthy of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Agape Youth Camp is our largest program and the catalyst for continued relationships with the Agape families. Camp is operated by loving and dedicated volunteers who enter fun, yet tough spaces to show the hope of the Gospel to kids who are often on the margins of society. Children ages 7-17 will march onto Camp Aldersgate for four days of fun activities, new friends, and gospel conversations. This summer we will be hosting a day camp from July 16th-19th, a different feel but same great memories in the making!

While 2020 has thrown us all a lot of curve balls we are grateful for the opportunity to gather with our campers. Lots of new safety protocols will be put into place to protect the health and safety of our campers and volunteers. Volunteers are needed in various areas including cabin leader (full time), wait staff, hospitality, activities, medical, crafts, and security. We would love for you to join us and help make an impact on young lives this summer!
