|Dear Forever Family,|
When I first came to the Lord over 30 years ago, one of my first memory verses was Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for harm, to give you a future and a hope.” I love that nothing surprises our God. His plan for us is good! And with Him we have a future and He is our hope!
In the light of the newest guidelines from the CDC and the wisdom of God in dealing with the Corona Virus, our Tuesday night CR gatherings we will be cancelled for at least a month.
A big part of God’s plan for us is that we be in community. We are instructed in Hebrews 10:25, “not neglecting to meet together . . . but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” How can we be in community and be socially responsible during these times? My friend and pastor Chris Mead has said, “we are married to the mission, not the method.” Our mission in recovery is living out a Christ-centered life and leading people to pursue a Jesus-first life.
So let’s be creative in our methods of having community: Being at home doesn’t mean being alone. During this time we encourage you to invest time in prayer and honest dialogue with your family, friends, or roommates. Reach out to neighbors, accountability partners, and/or sponsors via text, phone, etc.Invite a friend for a prayer walk outside (weather permitting).Joining a prayer team. This is one of my favorites because it helps me take my eyes off of self and pray for others.Become an encourager via text. Ask a friend or two if you can send them scripture or an encouraging word. Please reach out to another person. The key in healthy community is to encourage one another. We know that isolation is a major part of all our hurts, habits, and hang ups. We implore you to reach out, respond to others, and rest in the knowledge that you belong and are part of God’s forever family. You are not alone!
Your CR Leadership Team will be implementing various ways for promoting community via our Facebook page. We are also asking for your ideas for creative community gatherings. So please check our CR Facebook Page and send us your ideas, prayers, and encouragements.
We know that this is a fluid situation and that things can change quickly. We will continue to do our best and honor God and serve you in this process.
In His Service,
