August Financial Update

August Financial Update

Hey Church Family,

This past Sunday we had a great fall kickoff! It was wonderful to be together—with the sanctuary, children’s rooms, and lobbies filled with people—to worship, learn from God’s Word, take communion, and celebrate 15 baptisms! That’s 15 more individuals who publicly declared their love for Jesus, decided to follow Him for the rest of their lives, and are joining us in leading people to pursue a Jesus-first life! One guest told me that he really sensed the Holy Spirit working in our church and encouraged us to keep on keeping on.

As we launch our fall ministries, we know Jesus is leading us and has many blessings prepared for us as we reach people with the gospel. Before we move completely away from summer, I want to update you on our finances and share some of our financial goals for the final stretch of 2021.

August Budget: $155,000
August Actual Giving: $139,442.24
Difference: -$15,557.76 (-10.57%)

2021 January-August Budget: $1,195,000
2021 January-August Actual Giving: $1,121,300
Difference: -$73,700.00 (-$6.36%)

September Budget: $150,000

COMMENTS. I was pleased to see August numbers tick back up a bit after the hard hit we took in July (-30%). However, we were still 10% short of our projected August budget. This figure is also close to our YTD deficit. Please be in prayer for new people to financially partner with the mission of Morning Star in leading people to pursue a Jesus-first life. It is important that our finances keep heading up and that we make a significant dent in our shortfall (or better yet, eliminate it!) by year’s end—something God is completely able to do! So you know, we are still paying all our bills on time and continuing to limit expenses, but we did need to dip into our short-term savings to finish paying our August commitments.
FAMILY MEETING. Please save the date and plan to come to our Family Meeting! It’s October 10 at 6:30 pm, in the sanctuary and online. During these meetings, we communicate about all sorts of topics regarding the business of the church and so much more, because an informed church is a healthy church. On the agenda is a deep dive into our finances, which will be a much closer look than what we can do on a Sunday morning or in these emails.

GIVING IDEA: Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). Now is the time that many of you are planning your year-end finances and giving. If you are 72 or over, your IRA may require a minimum distribution by the end of the tax year. This could be a double blessing—for you and for your church. If you do have a required minimum distribution (RMD), the IRS stipulates that the distribution be made by the end of the tax year. One way you are allowed to do this is to send funds directly to your church and/or other non-profits. If this is something that applies to you and that you’d like to do, we recommend that you contact your financial advisor and discuss this possibility. You’re also welcome to contact our Financial Director, Candy Escalante (, with any questions you may have.

GIVING. If you would like to partner financially with Morning Star Community Church in disciple-making work and/or set up automatic giving, you can do so by clicking HERE. If you have comments or suggestions, I’d love to hear from you (
Fall is harvest time. The season itself reflects Jesus’ words: the fields truly are ripe and ready for harvest. That’s why we’re more committed than ever to leading people to pursue a Jesus-first life.

THANK YOU for your faithful prayers and generous support to help make it possible.

Jesus first!
