There is no better way to start the new year than with a week of intentional prayer as a church family. This is our fifth year of 7 Days of Prayer, and I see it as the most important week of the year in the life of our church. For us to be the church God wants us to be, we need to pray as God has called us to pray—purposefully, personally, and persistently. God tells us He is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine, so we can pray big prayers. We will ask God to impact our neighborhoods, transform our city, change our world, and move deeply in our own hearts and minds. “We” doesn’t mean the staff or a few retired folks who like to pray. “We” is each and every member of the Morning Star family, because God tells us all to pray and make our requests known.
Our 7 Days of Prayer morning prayer times begin at 9:30 and we have childcare on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings. Our evening prayer times start at 7. All of these gatherings will last approximately 45 minutes. We’ll be meeting in the North Lobby, where, in addition to group prayer, you’ll find several interactive prayer experiences created to support a variety of ways of engaging. These include a cross on which to pin written requests, pillows for kneeling, and the opportunity to walk and pray over the church building. If you’re not quite comfortable about praying in a group, no worries. No one will be put on the spot or forced or shamed into praying out loud. God listens to the intent of our hearts, not the eloquence of our words. We are simply setting aside focused time daily to seek God together.
Prayer guides are available in print and online. You’re welcome to join in prayer at home. We also see great value in God building us up together as we unite in prayer in person. So please come to at least one (or more) of our in-person gatherings. Let’s see what God does as we start 2026 with what’s most important!
