SPRING BREAK MISSIONS: STUDENT PRAYER PROMPT
What If?
What if God had something wonderful in store for you for your Spring Break? What if God has something wonderful in store for someone else through you?
We believe this. We believe that God has incredible things ahead for us over Spring Break, but we know our growth and development starts now. We believe that God leads us, and when we are submitted to Him, we can’t go wrong. God led us to where we are now, a plan where we have two trips on Spring Break, one to Lind, WA and one here in Salem. The question becomes, where will YOU go? God knows that too, and we believe that He will lead us in that.
We are asking that you participate in this act of trusting in God by working through these questions and Scriptures in a time of extended prayer. We know this is likely different from anything you’ve done before, but we trust that when we seek God, He isn’t hiding from us.
Would you spend, at minimum, 20 uninterrupted minutes working through these Scriptures and prayer prompts to discern where God is leading you this Spring Break? We trust that where the Spirit leads you is where you should be!
We’ve included Scriptures, prayer prompts, and trip descriptions for you to interact with. The Student Ministries team is praying for you that as you do this, you will find joy in just spending time with your Father in heaven who loves you.
PRAYER PROMPTS
Now, as you begin to spend time with God and seek clarity, remember a couple of things.
1. God isn’t ChatGPT. He doesn’t just spit out the answer you want when you ask Him a question. He’s a being. That loves you. Spend time with Him.
2. If you’re waiting to hear an audible voice or have the answer written in the sky, that may not happen. It can! More often, clarity comes in the way of thoughts that seem as though they come from nowhere, verses of Scripture, or even the voice of a trusted Godly person. Know that in this situation, a fair answer from Him may be that either trip is a good option and if that’s the case, tell us!
Read these passages carefully. They were selected to inform this time of prayer. Make connections between these verses and the decision that lays in front of you.
Jonah Chapters 1-3; Psalm 23
Enter a quiet place. Quiet your mind. Focus on being present with God. Imagine Him there in the room with you if that helps you.
Prayer Prompts: Spend a couple minutes on each line.
“Help me set aside distractions that keep me far from you.”
“God, I want to honor you in all I do. Help me put aside my own desires to be able to do what you want me to do. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you with my time and energy.”
“I know that when I seek, God you are faithful to answer.”
“Will you please show me in some way which trip you have for me.”
“I trust that what you want is what’s best for me.”
Salem Trip Description
This trip is a great opportunity to see and meet needs in our own communities. We never want to overlook the physical and spiritual needs of our own home and it’s a valuable chance to learn how to live on mission year-round. During this week in Salem we will be working with our Local Partners (eight organizations in this city that care for those in need in one way or another). That could mean feeding unhoused people at Union Gospel Mission, organizing the warehouse at Hope Station where they provide food for thousands of underprivileged families, partnering with Salem Angels in caring for foster families, coming alongside refugee families through Salem for Refugees, and much more.
Along with those organizations, we’d also love to be a blessing to other churches in our city who may have ministry or facilities needs that we could help with. We may even give our facilities team around here a helping hand if needed! The other primary use of our time will be putting on a Sports Camp/VBS for the two apartment complexes right here next to Morning Star. These areas are full of refugee families and people who need the love and grace of Jesus and while they are not in school, what a great opportunity to bring them onto our campus and show them the love of Christ.
Other possibilities could be an all youth worship night, a chance to meet up with a friend from school, and anything else the Lord leads us to!
Lind trip Description
The Lind trip will look very similar to previous years. We have a wonderful connection to Lind Community Church and their Pastor Rod Dennis. Over the last few years we have poured into the community in really practical ways through yard work, maintenance and other physical needs, both for local churches and community members/public buildings.
We also established a Sports Camp that has been a highlight for the kids of Lind as well as a great training ground for our students. Between service projects and Sports Camp, most of our days are filled up quick! In recent years, Lind Community Church has begun to build up their own youth ministry which is incredible to see! One of our greatest goals would be to equip them to be able to lead Sports Camp and continue to disciple young people in our absence.
Final Follow Up
Thank you for being intentional with this time and seeking answers from God and His Word. If you have questions during this process, please reach out to us and/or your leader!
We would happily work with you through this. We’re excited to hear what trip you feel the Lord is calling you to!
Please come ready to share at the first Highlife and RIOT check in meetings on January 7 and 8.
