Student Ministries at Morning Star is all about one thing: providing a place for students to learn about Jesus Christ.
Discipleship is the model that Jesus used with his closest followers, and we believe that model is the best way to lead our middle and high school students. Our discipleship staff step into the lives of the next generation to walk alongside, teach and admonish, correct and encourage, and love patiently as they learn to follow Jesus.
Opportunities to serve with student ministries reach across the board. We are always in need of more adults who love Jesus and want to serve our students. No matter your availability, talents, or abilities, contact us to see how you can get started investing in the lives of students. We have different opportunities for volunteers, including discipleship staff, a parent team, safety and security, and help with special events throughout the year.
Our dream is to have an awesome, cross-generational team of adults and parents that love these students and lead them towards Jesus.
what does it look like?
We have multiple weekly gatherings, camps, and special events thoughout the year. It’s an investment of time, energy, and love that is worth every second.
Our discipleship leaders (or small group leaders) represent the biggest time and energy commitment, but we have many other ways that anyone can serve our middle and high school students!
From helping at our special events once or twice a year to some of our weekly roles, there is a space for anyone who loves students and wants to see them know Jesus better.
I have a little bit of time:
If you can’t commit to a weekly basis, we have lots of special events throughout the year where we need extra hands.
We have summer and winter camps, which would require a week or weekend commitment helping in the kitchen, with the pit crew, or other tasks.
We also have several events during the year that would be an afternoon or evening (or a couple hours in the middle of the night for our All Night Middle School Party!)
Being part of this team would include being on a contact list and we will reach out when we have events or needs throughout the year. You can come to as many or as few as you’d like!

I have some time:
We have a couple roles that are weekly or bi-weekly, but with less of a time commitment than our discipleship leaders.
Middle School Lobby Team: weekly on Thursday nights from 6:45-9:15 pm. This team helps greet students, help new students fill out connect cards, answer questions, and keep an eye on the lobby during Highlife.
Middle School Sunday Morning Table Leader: weekly on Sunday mornings from 10:45 am-12:15 pm. Our middle schoolers gather on Sundays for teaching and discussion. We sit at tables and have adults facilitate discussion!
High School Lobby Team: every other week on Wednesday nights from 6:45-9:15 pm. This team helps greet students, help new students fill out connect cards, answer questions, and keep an eye on the lobby during RIOT.
I have a lot of time:
Discipleship leaders are the heart and soul of our student ministries. Everything we do at camps or on a youth group night is to build to our small group times. This is big commitment, both in time, energy, and love. It's more than just showing up to official gatherings, it's an attitude of bringing students into your lives as you help them pursue Jesus. Some of the expectations are:
Attending a Sunday service
Attending midweek gatherings and leading small group discussions (Wednesdays from 6:15-9:15 pm for high school, Thursdays from 6:15-9:15 pm for middle school)
Attending Winter Camp (three day weekend in February), Summer Camps (one week in the summer), and 2-3 day/evening events throughout the year
Being present in students lives outside of official gatherings; going to sports games or plays, organizing small group hang outs, etc.
Middle School Specific: Attending MStar Middle School (MMS) on Sunday during the 11 am service and leading table discussions
High School Specific: Attending or hosting a high school bible study once a week (leaders set times and locations)
